Watcher, I think I'd call this a dramedy.
I was gonna take a day off from this, as it's gotten bigger and gone on longer than I thought (hoped) it ever would and I find it exhausting. However...
I looked up the definition of censorship:
"to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable"
From that definition, it seems clear to ME that censorship has been going on here. To a degree, it's natural...keeping an eye on things and keeping the hate and spam off of the Roo is a big part of why you're here. My concern from the get-go when I first made censorship comments was...where the line would get drawn. It can be Such a gray area and is generally a line that's different for each individual. My worry was that it would cross over from simply eliminating Hate and spam (which there's been practically None of, which is Great!) to people posting their personal thoughts, that some may not agree with. I'm surprised and saddened at how fast that has happened.
The specific things that I'm referring to are the comments on Aus's post and Beware's FOCC post. Perhaps there's more, I'm not sure. But these things were Not Hate posts/comments...seriously. I don't know if you saw the true hate comments on the old Roo, but they were Obviously hate, absolutely No doubt. And most All of them were no name comments.
To me, that line I feared has been crossed. You don't understand why I can't see that it hasn't...and I don't understand why you can't see that it Has.
Deleting obvious hate, like a no name calling someone a cunt...good.
Deleting people posting their opinion on something, or trying to lighten the air with some humor, because it Might cause discourse...Not good.
My guess is there are likely Hate It clicks on most posts...certainly any posted by me, lol. It's one of the reasons I'd suggested you change it to Report It...which apparently you found to be 'Silly'.
Me expressing my concern over censorship does NOT mean I don't want you here. I do. And I truly value all the good that you've done here. It simply means that I would really appreciate it if you'd reevaluate the line you've drawn on what gets deleted by you guys. SOMEone will always be offended by pretty much anything that's posted. It's just the way it works. But if you keep on the track that you're on, you'll be changing what the Roo is supposed to be about.
I truly don't believe that I'm acting like a 6 year old. I believe that I'm making valid points and expressing valid concerns. If, after reading this, you Still can't see what I'm saying or any validity to it...well, That will be saying a lot in itself.
