It's my day off and I set my alarm for 5:30am.....why, when I could sleep in?

I have a Coati (not just any Coati but THE Coati, Tonka) that has not been feeling well. He's got an issue with his little belly. He's on meds but they still don't seem to have cleared the whole problem up, even though he is feeling 95% better.
Next step...he's gonna have to go to a vet that specializes in Exotics----OUCH, I already feel the pain in my pocket....LOL

So anyhoo, I set my alarm to make sure he gets his meds and I had to fix his breakfast. He's on Baby Rice cereal and other baby foods to help his tummy feel better. Now he's sleeping all curled up and he looks so comfortable in his hammock.

Looking at him resting just made me think that it was worth getting up early, even on my only days off :)

Don't know what I would do if I didn't have my furkids. It's amazing how much I love these little buggers.

I'm thinking about adding a Coonie to the family next year :)

What kind of pets do you guys have.??

I hope ur coati is feeling better soon.

We have a rescue dog from the pound. Its a black lab mixed with something:0. When we got her from the pound she weighed around a pound..maybe and could fit inside ur coat pocket. we had no idea whether she would live or not, she was the smallest of 8 puppies, curled up in a corner. We saw her sad eyes and could not resist. She is now 6 years old,her bday this month :) her name is "Tiny" and weighs in at 45 pounds now. She also played the role of hero about a year ago. In the dead of night she came up stairs and awakened me,then proceeded to start barking and growling at our front door. I was coming down the steps when I saw the door handle being moved. Tiny was going crazy and as the door sstarted to open I jumped off the 2nd or third step and hit the door with my shoulder. Whomever i hit with the door was knocked backwards and off our porch. they took off, I called the police and they came and searched for the guy. They didnt find him but we havnt had any problems like that since. Tiny saved the day. I am quite sure it was better for all involved that the intruder did not make it in the house. She has made herself an intricate part of our family. She is always so excited to see us if she has been home alone for any length of time. She has the run of the house, as long as we havnt left a sandwich to close to the edge for her to snatch she is well behaved.

Love comes in many forms trish, and loving ur pets and receiving love back from them is truly one of the special gifts we have been given :)

Do you want to find out who your real friend is? Try this experiment, it actually works.

Put your dog and your spouse in the trunk of your car for an hour, when you open the trunk which one is REALLY happy to see you?

Poor Tonka, I hope the little guy is feeling better soon!! You sure are a good Momma to him.

We've had a variety of dogs, cats and fish over the years, but currently we only have one and that's Jack, our boxer mix, which we got from a rescue and love very much. He's become and integral part of our family. ^_^

I Very much agree that our pets can add a lot to our lives. There's nothing like the unconditional love that they offer! :)

I'm glad Tonka's feeling better. I hope you find out what's giving him tummy aches. One time I raised two baby gray squirrels on a bottle after someone cut down the tree their nest was in. They were three days old, tiny little pink things. I kept them in my hand with a towel wrapped around it, 24 hours a day, to keep them warm. They grew up to be big, healthy squirrels. Everyone loved to pet them, with their big bushy tails. After about a year, they gradually went back to the wild. Another time, I found a large baby bird at the base of a palm tree. He was all pink with no feathers. I mixed alfalfa sprouts, wheat bread and carrot juice into a sort of paste and I used a toothpick to stuff it down his beak. His name was Chirper because when he was hungry, he started chirping and I would hurry and feed him. He would wake me up in the middle of the night, hungry....chirping. The minute I got home from work, he would start the damn chirping. I would try to sneak in, but he always heard me. Ha ha! He grew up to be a magnificent pigeon and lived inside most of the time. When he was outside, I would put my arm up and he would fly to me land on it. One time he flew through the neighbor's open window and landed on his head! Chirper also eventually returned to the wild.

The food we put out for a stray cat is also eaten by a resident Racoon and Possum.

AWWWWWW I HATE it when our loved pets (furkids) has anything wrong with them, they can't tell us what they feel and we feel helpless, I know how you feel Trish, hope it all resolves very soon.
I was gunna ask what a coonie is but since someone mentioned a racoon, I assume you mean that?
Will it get along with the fur kids you have?

Yeah, me too :(

Tonka is on Flagyl (sp?) and that's supposed to help with most tummy issues but his little belly still sounds like there is a river raging through his belly 24/7 and you can tell by his face that every so often, he's in pain....he just looks so sad when that happens.
We thought he had a stomach infection of some sort but after 2 weeks on the meds, it's still hanging on. Mind you, he feels 95% better than he did, so it is helping to a degree but it's knocking it all the way out.

Raccoons and Coatimundi are very closely related, they are both members of the Procyonidae family. I had both in Texas and they get along just fine....well, the Coonie can't jump as far as the Coati and they get a little bit more round with age....LOL

Thanks for all the comments, I love hearing about other peeps furkids :)
